The Wolfling Experiment

The other day, as I was organizing my Creatures folder, I ran across a folder named "Wolfling". I opened it, and found it contained documentation of an experiment I ran several months ago. It contained Norns, photos, a text file and some zipped Norns. I decided to post them on a new page, as had been my original intention. And so, here you are. The complete (as far as I know) results of The Wolfling Experiment.

This experiment is to determine whether different areas of Albia have an affect on how the Norns breed, socialise, travel, eat and learn.  Two Norns of the same age or confined to different areas (levels) of Albia.  They are not allowed to leave the level.

Here are the starting Norns...
Desert Level:   Names: Barbie and Sting
Notes:-Basic Scorpio Norns
-Left alone, few toys, vendors for food
-Largest area to explore

Incubator Level:   Names: Topanga and Shawn
Notes:-Smallest area
-Fruit, cheese, mushrooms
-A few toys, mostly musical/"educational"
-The "wealthy" family

Cheese Machine Level No pic of Anakin Names: Padmé and Anakin
Notes: -Basic Golden Desert Norns
-Most toys, variety of food
-Waterfall and Hang Bridge used for travel

Garden/Volcano Level   Names: Maya and Ringo
Notes: -Food is whatever they find in the garden
-Ettins and Grendels with them
-Probably most diverse area.

The following is a documentation of what happened during the experiment...
Anakin and Padmé:
-Stayed together as children
-Began to explore later on, not together
-Padmé pregnant at 1:21
-First child, Luke, seems healthy and active
-Anakin dies after drowning in the pond at 1:37
-Padmé disappears for a while and floats around the world. Comes back after about 3 crashes, but for some reason is only selectable by the Norns menu, and cannot be tickled or slapped.
-Padmé exported. Maya re-imported, and paired with Luke in the Garden
-Cellar level experiment "aborted"
Sting and Barbie
-Barbie pregnant at 0:40, female named Owwy
-Owwy is unusually happy for a Scorpio
-Owwy was raised by Barbie, followed her around
-Barbie dies at 1:35
Shawn and Topanga
-Best breeders, 3 children before 0:30 hours old
-First child, Tia, seems healthy
-Second, Tamara, cannot move. She can speak, and has a high life force
-Started to move around normally in childhood
-Stayed as a family, often leaving Tamara alone. Topanga and Shawn are rarely apart
-Third, Cory, is healthy
-Tamara dies at unknown age, unknown cause. Probably for the best, no more mutations. Cloned as Tam, not used in game.
-Topanga pregnant with fourth child at 0:58 with Ryder, male.
-Tia exported at 0:41, sick with fainting disease
-Topanga pregnant again, with Harvey.
-Shawn dies at 2:05
Ringo and Maya
-Stayed apart mostly
-Ringo prefers the Ettins to play with
-Youngest, most difference in appearance
-Generic Norns
-Ringo dies at 1:04
-Maya is exported, and that section of the experiment is aborted
-Maya re-imported and paired with Luke in the Garden

*Please note that if there is no documentation of the Creature dying, then he/she survived and was exported at the end of the experiment.

Here are the resulting Norns (Not including starting Norns):
Desert Level
       Owwy
Incubator Level
           Tia                    Cory                 Ryder                Harvey
Cheese Machine Level
        Luke

A few final words...
I guess I was disappointed with the results of this... my computer was screwing up a lot, forcing me to end the experiment prematurely. I suppose I should have started with all hatchery Norns, which would have most likely lessened the chance of genetic problems in the offspring (as with the Incubator Level group). I am not sure whether or not certain areas had a certain effect on the Creatures... this experiment would have to be repeated numerous times to prove that. But was it a coincidence that the family on the  Incubator level had the most children? Is there a mating gene triggered by the incubator's presence? But since that level used non-hatchery Norns, the subjects I chose could have been superbreeders or something. Unfortunately, None of the offspring of the original pairs ever bred. But then that would be kinda gross :-). I suppose the original idea of the experiment was kind of pointless, to really make it informative, a single baby Norn would be placed in each environment and left to grow up. That would leave no chance for imprinting from other Norns. I guess thats it then.... I'll put the Norns that I have zips of up for download. :-) Thanx for reading my first attempt (and probably my last attempt) at being scientific about Creatures!
